This output was the development of the conceptual model that integrated leadership at the workplace and stress management for correctional settings concepts, methodological and intervention approaches. This output was built upon the state of the art analysis on leadership development and occupational stress management; and the collection of approaches, lessons learned and practices in the field
O1/A1. State of the art analysis on leadership development and occupational stress management
Through desk research, a descriptive and analytical study looked into the theoretical and practical developments in the area of stress reduction through leadership development in the prison context. Thus, researchers discuss the current state of strategies/efforts to promote individual and group leadership skills, emphasising their findings on how it promotes stress reduction levels within the workplace. O1/A2. Collection of approaches, lessons learned and practices in the field Through a thoughtful screening and analysis of the different actions in place and its contexts, this activity purposed identifying similarities and differences between approaches, as well as establishing/selecting factors that contributed to their effectiveness. In sum, it aimed to separate “what works” from “what doesn’t work”, in order to sustain the development of the activity within this IO. O1/A3. Development of a methodological framework This activity consisted in developing a conceptual model that integrated the different leadership concepts with methodological approaches aiming the promotion of stress reduction within the workplace, with a clear focus in the prison environment and the actors within. This activity was built upon the previous two activities within this IO (IO1/A1 & IO1/A2) and intended to support the development of IO2 & IO3. The occupational stress diagnosis innovative assessment tool is a screening & assessment instrument that correctional professionals are able to use in order to assess organisational stress levels in correctional/prison settings. This IO intended to pilot and fine-tune the developed instrument in its final activity.
O2/A1. Occupational stress diagnosis assessment tool development
This activity aimed to develop a thoughtful assessment tool to detect and identify any cases of stress amongst the prison staff professionals working within a specific prison establishment. Based on the findings from IO1/A1, this screening tool supported scientific and academical evidence, and gave LEADCOR’s stress screening tool the necessary empirical background for the effective implementation of the following activity. Logically, it had in consideration the various characteristics (i.e., stress triggers, stress enablers, stress contributors) comprised within the particular environment of the prison context. O2/A2. Occupational stress diagnosis assessment tool piloting and fine-tuning This activity included the selection of participants; it counted with a minimum of 25 participants in each country, mainly involved by the prisons/prison administrations comprehended within LEADCOR’s consortium (DGRSP, Belgian Prison Service, Baia Mare Prison, and the Bremen Senate of Justice and Constitution) and trade union representatives of prison officers (SNLP and SNCGP). This activity also comprised tasks related to feedback collection and course improvement (i.e., finetuning). This output consisted of:
- An individual competences assessment instrument; - A comprehensive training module for all target groups (prison staff, administration and trainers); - A corrections leadership game (board & digital game) to support prison staff leadership development; The training curriculum and programme was piloted in prison context and fine-tuned after piloting feedback collection. O3/A1. Individual competences assessment
Individual competences of prison staff (prison governors/administrators, prison frontline staff, and prison technical staff) was identified based on desk research and previous findings of projects such as R2PRIS, INTEGRA, EIGEP, and PRACTICIES. O3/A2. Development of a comprehensive leadership training programme for all target groups (prison staff, administration and trainers) This activity intended to create the structure, contents, resources and materials that supported the development of the whole integrated LEADCOR training programme, which comprised a board & digital game, an e-learning course and a train-the-trainer course. O3/A3. Development of a corrections leadership (board & digital) game to support prison staff leadership development As the name implies, this activity intended to develop a leadership board and digital game aiming to support prison staff leadership skills with the purpose of reducing workplace stress levels amongst this specific target group. This activity intended to build upon the findings of BE FIRST & BE LEADER board games, developed by Global Change© Fluxphera (www.fluxphera.com). O3/A4. Piloting and fine tuning of the training programme & leadership game This activity included the selection of participants to be involved in piloting activities; it counted with a minimum of 25 participants in each country, mainly involved by the prisons/prison administrations comprehended within LEADCOR’s consortium (DGRSP, Belgian Prison Service, Baia Mare Prison, and the Bremen Senate of Justice and Constitution) and trade union representatives of prison officers (SNLP and SNCGP). This activity also comprised tasks related to feedback collection and course improvement (i.e., fine-tuning). IPS_Innovative Prison Systems

Led by IPS, this output consisted of an e-learning course and complementary materials. The distance learning course was developed so that it could be used also in a blended learning format. The e-learning training course was piloted in prison context and was fine-tuned after piloting feedback collection.
O4/A1. Development of the e-learning course and complementary material
This training course was directed at prison staff, aimed to instruct them on how to lower their stress levels by enhancing their inherent leadership skills. In sum, this activity comprised: - Design of the course structure; - Development of the training content (slides, exercises, collection of documents, videos, games, and other useful resources) and multimedia design. O4/A2. Piloting and fine-tuning of the e-learning programme This activity included the selection of participants to be involved in piloting activities; it counted with a minimum of 25 participants in each country, mainly involved by the prisons/prison administrations comprehended within LEADCOR’s consortium (DGRSP, Belgian Prison Service, Baia Mare Prison, and the Bremen Senate of Justice and Constitution) and trade union representatives of prison officers (SNLP and SNCGP).
